ISLAMABAD: Barrister Zafarullah Khan of the Watan Party challenged the decision to form a single-member commission for Panama Papers – accusing Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s family of owning offshore wealth – in the Supreme Court.
Zafarullah – who supports constitution of a parliamentary committee or panel to look into the Panama leaks scandal – submitted an application that stated that the court can’t constitute a commission since Enquiry Commission Bill 2016 is already waiting for the Parliament’s approval.
“The Parliament is the mother of all institutions and the courts are bound to implement the Parliament’s legislation. Supreme Court is not entitled to make Terms of References (ToRs) for the inquiry.” he said.
“The court’s jurisdiction does not allow it to hear any political family’s dispute,” the barrister said.
